A vintage 24 panel folding pamphlet covering the entire Côte d’Azur from Marseilles to Menton.
This is one of my very favorite pieces in my collection about the Côte d’Azur. Folded up it looks quite simple, measuring about 11cm wide and 22cm tall. But, as you start to open it and unfold the pages one by one it transforms into a huge (almost 130cm) two sided celebration of everything I love about the “French Riviera.” I have translated the entire brochure into English so you can download either the original French version, an English version or both.
The brochure provides detailed information on four separate trips along the Mediterranean coast:
From Marseille to Toulon, described as Region 1, the Calanques Region
From Toulon to Saint-Raphaël, described as Region 2, the Maures Region
From Saint-Raphaël to Nice, described as Region 3, the Estérel Region
From Nice to Menton, describe as Region 4, the Corniches Region
There’s a short introduction and a map for each region along with photos and descriptions of the most important towns and villages in each region.
As is normal for pieces this old there is no copyright date anywhere to be found. It was published by the PLM (Paris-Lyon-Marseille) organization that once provided tourist information for travelers. I’m guessing it’s from the 1920s but it could be a bit earlier or later.
