Our new book: An Insider's Guide to Vence: How to Make the Most of Your Visit

Perched between the French Riviera and the foothills of the Alps, Vence is one of the Côte d'Azur's most rewarding hill towns. Set on a small plateau beneath the rocky Baou des Blancs, it combines the beauty of Provence with a storied history that reaches back thousands of years. Yet Vence is not a museum village or a place kept alive only for visitors. It is a real town, rooted in centuries of heritage and tradition, where busy cafés, markets, festivals, shops, families, and artists still shape everyday life. Whether you are visiting for a day, a weekend, or an extended stay, this book will help you make the most of your time in Vence. Inside, you'll find over 200 pages of practical advice, local tips, and carefully organized recommendations on where to stay, where to eat, where to shop, what to do in and around town, and much more. You'll discover the old town, the cathedral, the Matisse Chapel, fountains, chapels, museums, markets, festivals, walks, bike rides, and nearby excursions.
Available in paperback or PDF/EPUB.

To Live in France: How and Why I Fell in Love with Vence

People ask me all the time what is it that I love so much about Vence and France. In some ways it's the easiest question in the world to answer and in some ways it's the hardest. My article, "To Live in France - How (and Why) I Fell in Love with Vence," takes a deep dive into my love affair with this town. It is a rather long article but if you're interested in our story you'll find it all here. There are lots and lots of photos as well. If you want to know more about Vence (and us) and why this is the only place I've ever truly felt at home, give it look.

I recently returned from an epic eight day backpacking adventure with my friend Doug through the Mercantour National Park. It's a unique experience that even the best words and photos can never really convey. Starting in the small village of Entraunes and working your way through some of the highest mountain passes in Southern France to finally emerge in the seaside town of Menton is a once in a lifetime experience. The hike includes seventeen one day stages but Doug and I only tackled the final eight, beginning in Isola 2000 and ending in Menton.
