A wonderful little four page flier from the 1924-25 season. There are five hotels listed as well as twenty-one “pensions de Famille.” Each has a short description, prices and location. Available as a download on our website.

Includes a mineral analysis of the water, a short essay by one Doctor Greffier on the benefits of drinking it and an “appreciation” of the water by Doctor Boulva. A four page flier celebrating a “Provençale” Mass to be held the Monday after Easter Sunday in 1927 in the Grand Jardin. Includes the program and lyrics to two songs.

A small booklet telling the story of a famous seige on Vence from 1592. It also includes a very short history of Vence. Written and published in honor of the two patron saints of Vence, Saint Véran and Saint Lambert. Available as a download on our website (with English translation).

A small eight page brochure printed by the Vence Syndicat d’Initiative (the Tourist Office) with basic information about Vence for tourists and visitors. There’s a guide to 38 sites in and around the old town, information about nearby surroundings and some photos. As is often the case with these old brochures there is not date, but the fact that the Matisse Chapel is not listed anywhere indicates it must be from the 1930s or 1940s.

A huge, fold-out map of the entire Côte d’Azur, including Corsica. One piece of cardstock that folds in half with the map glued to the front inside. The map is beautiful with lots of hand colored illustrations of various landmarks and locations.

A small folding promotional brochure from 1961 that opens into 8 panels. The full title is “Vence – Une journée merveilleuse.. Avec les cards de la Societe Automobile de Provence” (Vence – A wonderful day.. With the coaches of the Société Automobile de Provence). Its a promotional piece advertising day trips to Vence via a regional bus company that operated motorcoach tours and public transport services throughout Provence.

An eight page folded brochure released by the “Syndicat d’Initiative” (what the Office de Tourisme used be known as). There’s no date on it, but I suspect it’s from the 1970s. Nice color photos and text outlining why Vence is the perfect destination all year round.

A simple two-sided flier with information about the Société des Amis de Vence Cité des Arts (Society of the Friends of Vence – City of Art) and a form to fill out to join the organization. I believe the organization was formed in 1984 and while it is technically still registered as an official organization it is no longer active.

I don’t know exactly what year this map is from. I suspect it is from the 1980s or maybe 1990s, but there is no date on it anywhere. Also hard to say who put it out. Maybe the Office de Tourisme? Maybe the Chamber of Commerce? Available as a download on our website.

While on a quick glance this looks the same as the preceding map, it is indeed a different pressing. Most of the map is the same, but this one is a tiny bit larger. Additionally, the cover is slightly different, the inside has a slightly different layout and there are different ads. My guess is the two maps are at most a couple of years apart.

The Office de Tourisme releases a new map of the town almost every year. Unfortunately, they don’t always date them. This map looks pretty recent and its definitely from when the Office de Tourisme was still located on the Grand Jardin so I suspect it’s from sometime in the 2010s.

Things like yoga and pilates, contemporary and jazz dance, French and English lessons, pottery and ceramics, piano and guitar lessons and more. This is the schedule of classes for the 2021-22 year.

Every year Vence holds a small one-day festival to celebrate the various cultures that make up the town. Lots of booths with ethnic foods and items for sale. The flier contains information and details about the event in 2023.

Each year in early May a foot race is held up the Col de Vence. A Total of 11.8 kilometers and 620 meters of ascent.

Vence celebrates the “Nuit Europeenne des Musees” with this one night “art crawl.” 16 galleries participated, opening free to public from 18h00 to midnight. In addition to paintings and sculptures, music, literature and plastics were featured. The brochure contains a map with basic information about each of the galleries.

On Tuesday evenings in July and August one of the main roads in town, Marcellin Maurel, is closed down for a night market. You’ll find all kinds of arts, crafts, jewelry, food, etc. as vendors line both sides of the street. Music is usually featured as well.

Henri Matisse is one of the artists most associated with Vence. The flier advertises a 2 hour tour which centers around Matisse’s life in Vence and includes visits to the Matisse Chapel, the Vence Museum and more. This particular tour is available in English as well as French.

One flier, two events. A night of 80s music on le Grand Jardin followed a few days later by a DJ set radio show in the same place. Lots of music in the summer in Vence!

For many years Vence has been hosting Les Nuits du Sud (Southern Nights), a music festival in July and August. It usually lasts for several weeks with multiple acts over multiple nights. This year they are taking a little break and only doing two nights.

It’s a welcoming organization tasked with helping newcomers get adjusted to a new town. They offer a huge variety of sports, language, cultural, art activities and much, much more. The Vence chapter is a very large and very active one. This yearly brochure outlines their mission and provides information about the various activities.

Every year in September, during the time of “la rentrée, when vacations end, children return to school and adults return to work, a large forum is held in almost every town in France of any size. Various associations for sports, hobbies, education, etc. have booths with information about their organizations.

A special evening for Dogon people living in Vence. Dogons are an ethnic group indigenous to the central plateau region of Mali in West Africa. This evening features a raffle, sale of interesting objects, musical entertainment and special food.

Vence has a small, but very active theater group, Théâtre l’Avant-scène. This is their program covering the last part of 2023 and the first part of 2024.

You’ll find everything from paintings to furniture, jewelery to pottery, books to linen, etc., mostly from the 18th through 20th century. These vendors tend to be “high end” dealers, you aren’t going to find many deals here like you might at a brocante or vide-grenier.

Halloween has recently become much more popular in France and Vence is no exception. This little brochure outlines a variety of events scheduled to take place over the Halloween weekend.

November 11th is “Armistice Day” throughout Europe, the day celebrating the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and the Germany. Vence commemorates the day with expositions, a small parade and ceremonies at the war memorials.

Each year in early May a foot race is held up the Col de Vence. A Total of 11.8 kilometers and 620 meters of ascent.

Every year Vence holds a small one-day festival to celebrate the various cultures that make up the town. Lots of booths with ethnic foods and items for sale. The flier contains information and details about the event in 2025.

Vence celebrates the “Nuit Europeenne des Musees” with this one night “art crawl.” 20 galleries participated this year, opening free to public from 19h00 to midnight. In addition to paintings and sculptures, music, literature and plastics were featured. A concert was also featured this year. This brochure contains info about the events and a listing of all the galleries participating.

During the summer season of 2025 the Office de Tourisme published a little booklet with information about everything going on in town during the months of July and August: expositions, events, nature activities and more.

For many years Vence has been hosting Les Nuits du Sud (Southern Nights), a music festival in July and August. It usually lasts for several weeks with multiple acts over multiple nights. This year it lasts for two weekends, a total of six days, in July.

Every year a three day celebration is held in honor of Saint Elizabeth and the chapel dedicated to her. There’s a big community raviolis dinner held in Place Clemenceau, a mass at the chapel, lots of music and many other events.

It’s a public organization that helps residents who are experiencing social, financial, or personal difficulties. Their services can include things like: organizing local solidarity initiatives, helping people apply for social benefits or housing aid, offering emergency financial assistance, supporting elderly or disabled residents.

The AVF (Accueil des Villes Françaises) is an organization that exists throughout France with local chapters in most major metropolitan areas. It’s a welcoming organization tasked with helping newcomers get adjusted to a new town. They offer a huge variety of sports, language, cultural, art activities and much, much more. The Vence chapter is a very large and active one. This yearly brochure outlines their mission and provides information about the various activities.

Vence has a great cultural center where people can sign up to take affordable lessons in a variety of activities in a wide variety of categories. Things like yoga and pilates, contemporary and jazz dance, French and English lessons, pottery and ceramics, piano and guitar lessons and more. This is the schedule of classes for the 2025-26 year. Every year countries throughout Europe celebrate their history and heritage with European Heritage Days. For one weekend you can visit and explore lots of landmarks and sites that are normally closed to the public. There are also lots of concerts, guided tours, lectures and more. This brochure includes information about events in Vence, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Tourrettes-sur-Loup, La Gaude, Saint-Jeannet and Coursegoules.

Vence has a small, but very active theater group, Théâtre l’Avant-scène. This is their program covering the last part of 2025 and the first part of 2026.
