Small booklet (in English) about the regional natural park that Vence lies on the border of
Vence sits right on the edge of the Préalpes d’Azur Regional Natural Park, a large, diverse park that covers over 92,000 hectares (about 355 square miles) of wilderness. Situated only a few miles from the Côte d’Azur and very close to the high Alpes this area contains 47 municipalities and yet is home to only 31,000 people. Most of the villages here are very small with a population that has been decreasing over the years. It’s full of gorges, canyons, plateaus, mountains and quite a few of the “perched villages” for which this part of France is well-known. Unlike the French “National Parks” there are no special rules and regulations for a “regional park,” so you’ll find lots of shops and commerce. I spend a lot of time in this park, hiking, biking and exploring villages.
I don’t come across a lot of books and pamphlets about this part of France that are written in English so I wanted to make sure and post this for all the English speakers to enjoy. There are 24 pages with lots of information and color photos. The booklet acts as a basic introduction to the area for tourists and also gives a variety of links for even more information. You’ll find a nice map of the park, info about the native plants and animals, the cultural heritage and much more.
