Manufacturer: Cie des Arts Photomecaniques – 30 postcards.
The postcards in this collection manufactured under the name of Cie des Arts Photomécaniques have several different formats.
The fronts of the cards feature mostly a sepia toned image, a black and white image or a full color photograph. One card has a hand tinted color photography and another is a full color drawing. Most cards have no information on the front, but several do. For many a number, a location and a description is found on the back. The various numbering sequences and the differences in overall appearance suggest that they were manufactured over several decades.
Several cards feature a “Cap” or “CAP” logo on the front and/or back. This logo can be seen in three different variations. One variation of the logo can be found found on a card manufactured under the name of Editions CAP, which leads me to suspect that the manufacturers must have something in common. Most have “crinkled” edges though a couple have straight.
The address differs on the cards. For many it is listed as:
Cie des Arts Photomécaniques
Paris – Strasbourg
One lists it as:
Cie des Arts Photomécaniques
Strasbourg – Schiltigeim
One lists it as: C.A.P. – PARIS
Yet another lists it as: C.A.P. – STRASBOURG – PARIS
But on others it is listed as:
Cie des Arts Photomécaniques
44, r. Lettellier, Paris 15
On many cards the phrase “Real-Photo” precedes the name of the company.
Most of the backs of the cards are similar but a couple are noticeably different.
